Who We Are

We are a close-knit congregation in Thessalon that takes our faith to heart. Although our numbers may be modest, our purpose is anything but small. We strive to follow Jesus Christ in every aspect of life, looking to His teachings in the Bible for direction and understanding. Our community aims to embody both the humility and dedication that Christ demonstrated, offering a warm and welcoming environment for people from all walks of life.

At Thessalon Church of Christ, we don’t emphasize denominational labels or traditions that extend beyond Scripture. Rather, our concern is with the life and message of Jesus—who He is, what He accomplished, and how His gospel transforms lives. We believe the historical and biblical evidence for Jesus is compelling, and we make it our mission to dive deep into these truths.

Central to our fellowship is the desire to support each other in growing as disciples—encouraging one another in prayer, study, worship, and service. We also seek to extend God’s love and hope to the broader community, sharing the message of the gospel so that others may encounter the life-changing power of Christ.

What We Believe

At the Thessalon Church of Christ, our beliefs are anchored in the conviction that Jesus is Lord and that the Bible is God’s inspired Word. These core principles unite us in faith, worship, and service.

Jesus Christ is Lord

We believe in one God who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We openly confess Jesus Christ as Lord, the Son of God, who became flesh to dwell among us, our only Savior, and the head of His church. The foundation of our faith is rooted in passages such as Matthew 16:16 (“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”) and Colossians 1:18, which affirms Christ’s authority over all things. Because we believe He is Lord over all, we seek to honor Him in every decision, action, and teaching.

Salvation Through Christ

Our salvation is made possible by God’s grace and the saving work of Jesus, who died for our sins and rose again to give us new life (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). This gift is received through faith, as we trust in Him as Lord and Savior. The New Testament reveals a consistent response to the gospel: belief in Jesus as the Son of God, genuine repentance from sin, bold confession of His name, and baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38). Ephesians 2:8 reminds us that this salvation is God’s gift, not something we earn. We treasure this truth and seek to live in gratitude, walking daily in the hope, forgiveness, and new life that Christ has made possible.

The Bible as Our Guide

We look to the Bible as our guide because it is the word of God, carrying His authority and life-giving power. In it, the Creator has revealed His character, His promises, and His will for our lives. We believe all Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God and equips us for faithful living (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Because of this, we are committed to studying the Bible diligently, letting its teachings shape our faith, direct our worship, and guide us in daily living.

The Church as Christ’s Body

We believe the church is the body of Christ, called to live under His headship and to reflect His presence in the world (Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 1:22-23). Rather than identifying as a denomination, we see ourselves as simply Christians, seeking to reflect the faith and practice of the early church (Acts 2:42-47). As members of Christ’s body, we share in fellowship, teaching, prayer, and the Lord’s Supper, just as first-century believers did. Our goal is to unite under Scripture, embracing the New Testament pattern without adding or subtracting human traditions, so that together we can grow up into Christ, who is the head of the church (Ephesians 4:15-16).

Baptism by Immersion
Following the pattern shown throughout the New Testament (e.g., Mark 16:16; Acts 8:36-39), we baptize by immersing a believer fully in water. The very word “baptize” comes from a Greek term meaning “to immerse” or “to dip.” Through immersion, we follow Christ’s example and identify with His death, burial, and resurrection.

Weekly Lord’s Supper
Each Sunday, in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice, we partake of the Lord’s Supper (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). This is a sacred time where we reflect on the magnitude of Jesus’ love and the cost of our redemption. By participating weekly, we remind ourselves of the unity we share in His body and the ongoing significance of His atoning death.

A Cappella Worship
Our worship in song is offered a cappella—voices only—following the examples in Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16, where the early church is instructed to sing praises to God from the heart. In this simple, heartfelt style, every voice contributes to our collective praise, symbolizing the unity and fellowship we experience in Christ.

Our Mission
Inspired by the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), we are committed to sharing the gospel, making disciples, and serving others in Jesus’ name. Whether reaching out to our neighbors in Thessalon or supporting mission work beyond our local community, we want to live out God’s call to love and serve all people. Our hope is to remain faithful to the teachings of Scripture while showing compassion to those around us.

In all these matters, we strive to be Christians who stand united under God’s Word, demonstrating our love for one another and obeying Christ’s commands with humility and sincerity.

Our History

The Thessalon Church of Christ traces its roots back to 1907, when a small group of believers in Thessalon committed themselves to following the Bible’s teachings as closely as possible. Their inspiration came from the principles of the Restoration Movement, a 19th-century effort that sought to move away from purely man-made traditions and return to the example of the early Christians in the New Testament.

From those early gatherings, the church grew, sharing the gospel, serving the community, and building a family of believers committed to living out God’s Word.

Throughout the years, Thessalon Church of Christ has remained a place of worship, fellowship, and service. Generations of believers have gathered here to study Scripture, share in the Lord’s Supper, and spread the message of salvation.

Though we are a small church, we have a big mission. We continue the work that began here in 1907, sharing Christ with our community and beyond and being simply Christians, nothing more and nothing less.
